WEEK 6, Saturday January 8th at 8:15am:
NB - This season we are running our Saturday morning competition at Barton Park, Gladstone St, North Parramatta. See here for details. Due to the current condition of the track, competition for this Saturday 8th January has been cancelled! ZONE PARENT DUTY SIGN UP To run the Zone Championships the carnival needs 698 Parent Helpers. They are all parent volunteers like you. A proportion of these jobs are allocated to our club and we must fill them. They are all simple jobs that don't require any event specific expertise. A description of the duties is HERE. As such, it is compulsory for all parents to do a duty for each child competing at Zone, so add your name to the roster for a time that best suits your family commitments that weekend. If you have not yet signed up and your child has nominated for Zone, please do so by 5:00pm Monday 10th January, or your child's Zone nomination will not be able to be finalised. WE STILL HAVE 56 PARENT DUTIES THAT ARE YET TO BE FILLED! If you have already signed up but are available for additional duties, please sign up for a further duty. The carnival cannot run without your help. For the Parent Sign Up Portal, click here. For the Zone Program, click here. *NB: Parent helpers - You must wear closed shoes while on the oval ( NO bare feet / thongs / sandals). Remember to wear a hat and take a drink bottle with you on the oval. Start times are definite. Please sign in with our Team Managers, 30minutes before your duty Finish times are a bit of a guess and are based on finish times of your events. STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS - CHANGE OF DATE As previously advised, due to changes in the Athletics Australia competition schedule, the scheduled date for the LANSW State Championships has been changed. The State Championships are now being held on Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th March 2022 at Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre (SOPAC). For more information, click here. TRAINING Club coaches offer non-compulsory training on Wednesdays and Thursdays for the cost of a gold coin per athlete per day. NB Training is held at Kingsdene Oval, Felton Rd, Carlingford (see here). Training will recommence this Wednesday 12th January. Wednesday
Due to the changed location of competition, we have decided to place a hold on all records for the 2021/2022 season. This decision has been made in order to maintain fairness in the future years for all athletes as we return to Kingsdene Oval. In place of records, we will instead award a “Season Best Performance” in each event across each age group to the athlete/s who achieves the best performance this season. This award will be presented as part of our end of year Presentation Day. STAY INFORMED If this is your first season, everything you need to know is on our website, here. NRCLAC Presentation Day was held on Sunday at Murray Farm PS.
I was honoured to welcome our distinguished guests:
North Rocks Carlingford Little Athletics Centre’s Presentation Day is a time for celebrating the achievements of our club and our athletes, as well as publicly acknowledging the fantastic volunteers that make it all possible. This time last year, COVID was just kicking off, forcing the last-minute cancellation of State Championships and our Presentation Day. COVID rolled on, shortening this season by a couple of weeks, our membership numbers were limited, Zone and Regional Championships were cancelled, and we couldn’t do any of the more social activities at the oval. Considering these COVID restrictions, I think we still had a successful season. We had 387 athletes achieve 6,361 PBs, which is similar to 2019 season. Our athletes broke 56 records, which is itself a record, the most ever in a season. Despite our reduced numbers, our average attendance was actually higher than last season. We had 36 athletes represent the club at State Championships, which is a record, bringing home 11 medals, which is a great result. A successful season doesn’t happen without a lot of work from a lot of good people. On behalf of the Committee, I’d like to thank our Age Managers, Coaches, Starters, Timekeepers, Qualified Officials, Canteen Managers, BBQ chef, Team Mangers, Photographer, and Data Manager. In particular, I’d like to thank our Committee for all their work. Some notable achievements this season: We’ve grown the Committee to 17 energetic members, and I’m confident they’re a vibrant group that will see the Club strengthen in seasons to come.
I’d like to acknowledge the history of the club and express appreciation for the ongoing support and contributions of our Life Members. Thank you. I’d like to thank our sponsors for their ongoing support:
We value these relationships, thank them for their contribution, and are pleased to have them as members of our community. As a club, we have been very fortunate to have dedicated people who’ve gone above and beyond as volunteers. On behalf of the Committee, and the Club, it was my honour to present the following people with Merit Awards for Outstanding Service to North Rocks Carlingford Little Athletics Centre:
Presentation Day is a celebration of results. However, it really doesn’t matter whether we win or lose. More importantly, what makes North Rocks Carlingford Little Athletics successful, is the time we get to spend together, the community we build, and the friendships we make on the way. Thank you for coming together as a community. Fergus Tilt NRCLAC President WEEK 1 - 17.10.20

Jordon from PhysioFitness Castle Hill will be providing some great information on the most common injuries in athletics each week! He will a quick summary on what injuries can develop on the track and field. PATELLAR TENDINOPATHYThe term is fairly self explanatory! Jumper’s knee (otherwise known as patellar tendinopathy) is when there is pain at the front of the knee due to lots of jumping and repetitive load. It can happen in a lot of athletic events, but the highest occurrence is in movements that require a high amount of spring-action e.g. long jump, high jump, triple jump, even hurdles! As the injury is in the tendon, very often the common feature is that it gets progressively worse when you’re loading it or the intensity increases.
The cause for this condition can be a number of different reasons:
It is necessary that if symptoms around the front of the knee start to develop with certain events, to be assessed as soon as you can by a health professional with expertise in movement. There are multiple ways to help treat this condition:
If these areas are not addressed, it is most likely the pain will continue to increase, and the prognosis to recovery will take even longer! Leaving you “out of the race” for a significant amount of time. If you or your child are concerned about symptoms around their knee with certain sports, we have the space and facilities within our gym to return them back to the track sooner rather than later! Our clinic is located in Castle Towers Shopping Centre in the Fitness First. Call 9680 2422 to make a booking with Jordon himself, or make sure to catch him on the field this Saturday! Jordon from PhysioFitness Castle Hill will be providing some great information on the most common injuries in athletics each week! He will a quick summary on what injuries can develop on the track and field. Hamstring tearThe hamstrings are made up of three muscles that run along the back of your thigh, all of which are extremely important for running and sprinting activities. Very often, an injury to one of these three muscles will result in immediate sharp/shooting pain anywhere along the back of your thigh – usually while in the middle of your sprint!
There are a whole array of reasons as to the possible causes to this injury. Such as:
The reasons can be endless! However here are few tips that you can do to help lower the risk:
If you think your child may have injured their hamstring in the past, or have some niggling discomfort in the area, get them to a physio!! It is extremely important to have it assessed by a professional and to prevent some much bigger from happening down the track.
