COMPULSORY PARENT DUTIES
To run the Zone Championships the carnival needs 698 Parent Helpers. They are all parent volunteers like you.
The jobs are allocated to us and we must fill them. They are all simple jobs that don't require any event specific expertise. A description of the duties is HERE.
As such, it is compulsory for all parents to do a duty, so add your name to the roster for a time that best suits your family commitments that weekend. If you don’t choose a duty, one will be allocated to you.
*NB: Parent helpers - You must wear closed shoes while on the oval ( NO bare feet / thongs / sandals). Remember to wear a hat and take a drink bottle with you on the oval. Start times are definite. Please sign in with our Team Managers, 30minutes before your duty Finish times are a bit of a guess.

ZONE CHAMPIONSHIPS INFO
What are the Zone Championships?
Zone Championships are the major event of the season for the Northern Metropolitan Zone, where the five local Centres, Ryde, Parramatta, Northern Suburbs, North Rocks Carlingford, and Cherrybrook, compete against each other for an inter-club shield. Points are allocated for participation and results, so we really need everyone to enter.
Zone is a competition for U7 to U17 age groups. It is a great opportunity for athletes to represent their Centre and participation is strongly encouraged. It is the first step of qualification to compete at the Regional and State Track and Field Championships.
The first 6 finalists from Under 8s and older automatically qualify for the Regional Championships, which are held in February. The next best four qualifiers from either Zone, bring the field to 16 athletes. So, if you finish 7th or 8th in your final it is likely that you will be an additional qualifier to Region and will be notified after the NE Met Zone Carnival results are finalised.
Why should I attend?
It is a great opportunity for athletes to enjoy the experience of being part of a team and enjoy the competition amongst other clubs. Athletes of all standards are at the competition, and all athletes are welcome. The standard of competition is similar to our weekly club competition.
As the carnival runs for two days, you will get to meet other children and families and make friendships with athletes at other clubs.
How do athletes enter/nominate events for the carnival?
Complete the nomination via your ResultsHQ account. See instructions here.
This process is a nomination only. Entries will be finalised after the closing date and the team will be posted on the website.
Under 7 to Under 11 age groups can nominate for a maximum of four (4) events over the weekend.
Under 12 to Under 17 age groups can nominate for a maximum of six (6) events over the weekend.
NB, your nomination will not be finalised until you have signed up for a parent helper position.
What are the Zone uniform requirements?
All competing athletes must wear their full centre uniform with registration number, and age patch.
Shorts must be plain black (or girls' club lycra shorts with the blue and white panel), and finish above the knee. Compression wear with any logos or contrast stitching must finish above the knee and must be covered by plain black shorts for boys and girls.
Do not under estimate how strict the officials will be with uniforms. If you have any doubt about your uniform being 100% correct, then please speak to a committee member before the carnival.
Program Information
Times in the program are "not before" times. The event start times may in fact be later, but will not be before this time.
If athletes have clashes between events, do not worry. There are "clash managers" at the carnival who know which athletes have clashes and will sort this out. Please don't worry about missing the start of conflicting events.
Other Information
For those arriving during the course of the day, allow plenty of time to get a park and possibly a decent walk to the oval.
Generally speaking, the carnival will go ahead, rain, hail, or shine. Bad weather results in a delay, not a cancellation.
The club will have tents set up, so bring some chairs to sit on.
Parramatta runs a good BBQ and canteen.
Depending on your children's program you may have a bit of time between events. Books, cards, iPads, etc are worth having in your backpack.
Parents of young athletes doing fields events (especially U7), please be aware that the officials are vigilant in enforcing the rules. If you have any doubt about the rules / technique of your event (especially shot put and discus) please speak to your Age Manager or a committee member before the carnival. The officials at the carnival will explain the rules prior to an event starting, but will not assist the athletes by reminding them of the rules during an event.
