NRCLAC encourages participation in sport by a broad section of the community, and we believe sporting groups have the potential to address economic, gender, cultural, and disability barriers to a greater extent than many other sectors.
NRCLAC encourages participation by athletes with disabilities. Multi-Class athletes can join their designated age group, or they may join one of our dedicated groups for athletes with special needs. NRCLAC "Multi-Class" include athletes with autism spectrum disorders, Down's Syndrome, as well as vision impairments, and motor function limitations. Multi-Class Groups are managed by group parents, and are appropriate for MC athletes who need 1:1 assistance from a carer. To encourage their participation in Little Athletics, NRCLAC is proud to supply competition singlets free of charge for our multi-class athletes. Our Multi-Class groups compete in weekly track and field competition, and may compete in inter-club Zone, Regional, and State Championships. Weekly club competition for the groups is from 8.30am - 10.30 am and consists of five programmed events, that include: sprint and distance running, discus and shot put throwing, long jump, and high jump. MULTI-CLASS ATHLETES AT ZONE CHAMPIONSHIPS
Northern Metropolitan Zone Championships are held between the five local clubs in December at Barton Park, North Parramatta. Zone Championships include 100M, discus, and long jump, for multi-class athletes, held on the Sunday. No official Athletics Australia Disability Classification is required to compete. All are encouraged to take part.
MULTI-CLASS ATHLETES AT REGIONAL &
STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS
Little Athletics NSW conducts 100M, 800M, Discus, and Long Jump events for athletes with a disability at Regional and State Track & Field Championships held in February and March. All events are conducted as multi-disability events. Competitors compete against a multi-disability standard time or distance for their disability classification. Placings are determined by the competitor’s time/distance calculated against a percentage of the multi-disability standard for their classification. More info HERE.
CLASSIFICATION
Classification is a way of grouping athletes of a similar impairment or disability for the purpose of competition. Classification exists to try and create a “fair” competition amongst athletes of different disabilities.
Classification is only required by those Little Athletes wanting to compete at Regional and State Championship level. It is not required to participate at a Club level or Zone Championships.
